Dude… I Used to Be a Warm Pond
Locals of the Big Island of Hawaii used to have the most awesome place to hang out and relax. Located just south of Pohoiki, it was lovingly referred to as the “Warm Pond” by many. We will never forget that wonderful place. It had so many unique features, such as how it was connected to the ocean, so the waves would flow in. It was also pretty big in size, like a large swimming pool. Its size made it into a large swimming hole. It had a big tree that many people, especially keiki, would jump off of, into the warm pond. It was a well-known place, especially for features like how the fish would nibble on your toes… or how the temperature of the water was just right, like a warm bathtub.
Sadly this magical place was taken away by the 2018 eruption of Kilauea. The lava came in and snatched away our lovely little warm pond. Now the location is nothing but dried lava. Luckily, there is another small set of “Hot Ponds” that many people love almost as much. They are a little smaller and a little bit hotter… but they are very enjoyable none-the-less. Located in Pohoiki, just north of where the warm pond used to be, these hot ponds are also a great place to sit back and relax. They are also very close to the beach. However, nothing will ever compare to the big wonderful warm pond that was gone too soon.

Are real estate taxes the same as property taxes?
-
The terms “real estate tax” and “property tax” are often used interchangeably, but they’re not exactly the same thing.
-
Real estate taxes are levied on real property — meaning land and any affixed structures, like a house.
-
Property taxes can also be charged on other types of personal property, such as a car.

Did you know? The first flight arrived in Hawaii in 1927. It was the Bird of Paradise airplane that was used to cover the distance of 2400 ground nautical miles. It took more than 25 hours for the flight crew and the airplane to make it to the island. However, due to a fuel shortage, they crash-landed… but the crew survived the crash.

Real Estate Tip of the Month:
Your home loan could fall through if you open additional credit accounts while you’re being pre-approved for a mortgage. So, hold off on opening that store credit card at the home improvement big box until after you’ve closed on your home loan.

Business Feature: Luquin’s Mexican Restaurant - Pahoa: Always a good choice while in Pahoa, Luquin’s offers consistently good authentic Mexican food. One of my favorite places in this area, with their wait staff that is always extremely nice and friendly. They also have a bar that many people enjoy hanging out at. If you go there, I would recommend their fajitas plate with pork or beef. The fajitas are always an excellent menu favorite…. paired with a Corona!
